From Far and Farther
You Are Here, We Are There
Erika MacPherson, Manitoba,
Canada, 2m 8s
Shot along the shores of Jökulsá á Brú, the
largest glacial river in eastern Iceland, this film bears witness to a
landscape being submerged under 57 square kilometers of water, a reservoir
created for the purpose of providing hydro-electric energy to a nearby
Alcoa aluminium smelter.
Invoice
Adrian Little, USA, 2m
A Google search produced the following results: the word money appeared
659,000,000 times, war 543,000,000, culture 408,000,000 and peace 192,000,000.
With the origins of the Internet as a military tool, the sound from Invoice
has been partly mined from the Internet and altered. The Internet rumor
for the origin of the spoken word is that it originated from a military
training video. The thrown pennies represent ritualized violence, a body
count, helplessness, absurdity and consequence.
