Quick and Easy Animation Techniques
Working with found objects, dollar store art supplies and a wide number of still photography tricks and avant-garde filmmaking techniques, participants will learn how to add magic to their short film projects to create animated titles or create a dynamic viral short film.
Techniques including: Light painting, printing video to paper for reanimation, scratch animation, hand painted film and hand manipulation techniques.
Mike Maryniuk was born in Winnipeg, but raised in the rural back country of Manitoba. A completely self-taught film virtuoso, Maryniuk’s film world is an inventive hybrid of Jim Henson, Norman McLaren and Les Blank. Maryniuk’s films are a visual stew of hand-made ingredients and are full of home cooked wonderfulness. His films have screened at Sundance, TIFF, HotDocs, SXSW and around the globe.

Under the guidance of their elders, they created Kwäday Dän Kenji (Long Ago Peoples’ Place), a cultural interpretive centre that sits on the traditional land of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations. Harold and Meta reveal a poignant insight into what it means to them to share their culture with others.
When Water Covered the Earth

The story of Bill Hakonson is one of ambition and adventure. Bill’s family immigrated from Norway to the Canadian Prairies. His adventurous spirit took him north to the Yukon. He settled in Dawson City in 1943. The gold mining town provided him the opportunity to start many successful businesses, and to finally find the secure family life he didn’t have as a child.

In Other Half Dating Service, the artist references dating videos from the 1980’s where individuals would discuss the type of partner that they were looking for. Alex plays four characters which are each based on a facet of the her personality however, greatly exaggerated. The artist is interested in exploring her desire to find her “other half” while juggling the complex layers of her personality and what she is truly looking for.

As two growing years pass, Don Zeghers – farmer from Holland, Manitoba – phases out his multi-generational family farm. With experimental photography on Super 8, 16mm and digital mediums, his son Aaron Zeghers follows this life change and the dissolution of the family farm – perhaps a microcosm of the modern industrialized world. Nature is contrasted with industrial might in this sentimental and existential portrait of one’s own family.
